Ikea.  But Verdi is on strike

MSwedish furniture chain employees Ikea On Tuesday went on strike across the country. “Ikea employees are sending a clear signal to a good collective agreement,” said Maren Ulbricht, Verdi’s central secretary, on Tuesday. The centers of strike activity are therefore Lower Saxony and Bremen, but according to the union, furniture stores in Bavaria, Hesse, Hamburg, Baden-Württemberg, Saxony-Anhalt, Thuringia and North Rhine-Westphalia are also participating in the strike.

According to the furniture dealer, “strike measures” are affecting individual branches. An Ikea spokesperson responded in writing, “Currently, operations are ongoing without any restrictions.” As the company is in talks, it is not possible to comment on Verdi’s claims.

The union criticizes the “rapid digital transformation process” for which Ikea is not preparing its employees. At the moment it is about salary increase. “At Ikea, however, employees are also seeking a collective agreement that governs the company’s rapid digital transformation in the interests of employees,” Ulbricht explained.

Federal Tariff Commission Gave So the next step is to negotiate a so-called collective agreement for the future with Ikea’s management. The purpose of this contract is, inter alia, “the humane design of job security, competency and technology”. Verdi accused Ikea’s management of canceling a previously agreed-upon date and refusing to discuss further.
