Lukashenko takes “vengeance” for sanctions

The European Union and the United States are convinced that the Belarusian dictator is targeting migrants at EU borders. So they are again banning the country. Lukashenko is now escalating the controversy and banning the import of many food items from the West.

Belarus has announced a ban on the importation of food from several Western countries in response to the sanctions. Belarusian authorities published a long list of foods, including meat, dairy products, vegetables, confectionery and salt, that will be banned from the European Union, the US, Canada, the UK and Norway from January.

According to the information received from Minsk, more products can be added to it. The retaliation comes amid continued efforts by the entire West to press for illegal sanctions on our country, the government said. “Importers, manufacturers and retail chains will focus on replacing goods that are not made in Belarus with delivery from friendly countries.” However, some products such as baby food were exempted from the ban “in the interests of Belarusian citizens”.

Since the controversial presidential election in Belarus in August 2020, Western states have imposed a number of sanctions on Belarusian government officials, organizations and companies. Last week, further sanctions decisions were made due to the migration crisis at the EU’s borders with Belarus, in a coordinated action by Europeans and North Americans.

The European Union accused Belarusian ruler Alexander Lukashenko of targeting migrants from the Middle East across the EU’s borders. Minsk rejected it. Previous sanctions were imposed by Belarusian authorities on allegations of electoral fraud and crackdowns on opponents and opponents of the government.

With food imports banned, Lukashenko is doing the same thing as his ally, Russian President Vladimir Putin. Moscow also banned imports of agricultural products from the European Union in 2014 in response to Western sanctions in the Ukraine crisis.
