The new season has not even started and alarm bells are ringing at Bayern. After Lucas Hernandez, Alfonso Davies is also out of the German Championship. Davies injured himself with the Canadian national team and suffered a torn anterior ligament in his left ankle on Monday, according to the Munich team. He is missing from the team under new coach Julian Nagelsmann “until further notice”.
With two left-backs failing, new signing Omar Richards could quickly be put to the test. Richards moved free to German champions from English second division soccer club Reading FC.
Hernandez has been absent from FC Bayern for several weeks
Like Davies, who has no operation and has returned to Munich for rehab, French world champion Hernandez was injured in the national team. He had to undergo surgery due to a tear in the medial meniscus of his left knee. According to sporting director Hassan Salihamidzic, he will be out for “a few weeks”, while the “kicker” reported a “break of at least six weeks”.
The Bundesliga opener on August 13 is likely to come very early for the 25-year-old. Davis, who missed the Gold Cup with Canada, will first have to be fit and fit for competitive sports following his injury.
