Jan Bernadotte (✝80) is dead

His father created a flower paradise on the island of Mainau, and his family is related to the Swedish royal family. On the other hand, Jan Bernadotte lived a secluded life. Now he has passed away at the age of 80.

Lennart Bernadotte, who died in 2004, inherited the island from his father, Prince Wilhelm of Sweden, and turned it into a flower paradise open to the public. Lennart Bernadotte was the cousin of the Swedish king and husband of queen silvia, Carl Gustaf.

“Able to fall asleep when you’re tired”

His son Jan Graf Bernadotte also grew up in Mainau, who has now died at the age of 80. “We say goodbye to Karl Johann Gustaf Wilhelm (January) Count Bernadotte of Wiesborg”, it says in an obituary notice from the family, which was also published on the Internet. The Count’s relatives say goodbye, including his sister Birgitta.

In the ad, he also shared a quote Hermann Hesse: “To be able to fall asleep when you’re tired and be allowed to let go of the burden you’ve long carried is a delicious, wonderful thing.” It is not known from whom Jan Bernadotte died.

The 80-year-old was rather laid back and had little to do with the family’s royal roots. According to “Bunte,” he tried his hand at a range of businesses from scrap dealer to wine importer or restaurateur. He has been married five times and has four children from different marriages. His memoirs are titled “Jan Bernadotte – The Black Sheep of the Royal Family”.
