Japan has many top class scientific and research institutes. One study shows that other countries have an edge when it comes to the quality of scientific work.

The policy of the National Institute of Science and Technology of Japan recently published its Message compared to international scientific work. To do this, they analyzed works that had been published around the world over a period of 3 years.

Scientific papers from US and China are ahead

This showed that Japan still has something to do, as China is on top. In terms of work volume, China was able to show 353,100 pieces per year. The USA followed with 285,700 copies. This is the second year in a row that China has overtaken the US.

Germany finished third with about 68,000 pieces, followed by Japan with 65,700 pieces.

Japan is also not in the top three when it comes to quality ratings. Quality is measured by the number of citations in other research. Ten percent of the most cited articles are examined in greater detail.

China received 40,200 papers this year with the highest number of citations. For the first time, he exceeded the number of the United States. There was only one cut in 37,100 documents under quotes. Third place went to Great Britain with 8,600 and Germany came fourth with about 7,200 pieces.

Japanese researchers should get more research hours

Japan ranks tenth and can boast of only 3,700 research papers among citations. The institute explains the development by the fact that the number and financial resources of researchers in China have also increased, which means they also deserve more attention internationally.

For Japan, the institute recommends expanding research hours for scientists. The number of doctoral students should also be increased. In any case, researchers from Japan don’t have to hide and universities in Japan can score especially in the field of natural science.
