The Museum of Modern Art in New York City has to be evacuated after a man stabbed two female staff at the museum. Both the women were taken to a nearby hospital and their condition is stable.
Two workers were injured in a knife attack on the world-renowned Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York on Saturday afternoon (local time). Police said a visitor to the museum angrily attacked the staff for withdrawing his annual pass.
Following the attack, the museum was evacuated and closed for the day. In a video going viral on social media, dozens of people are seen exiting the museum in huge crowd. New York City Police Department Deputy Chief John Miller said the two women were injured “in the back, collarbone and neck.” The women were immediately taken to the hospital and “we were told they would be fine.”
A police spokesman told AFP news agency that no one had been arrested. He did not give any information about the background of the crime. Several US media reported that police had identified a suspect. New York Police called on people to avoid the area around the museum “due to a police investigation”.

The suspect was videographed as he exited the museum and the police have determined his escape route. Police said the incident is on and the investigation is still in the initial stage.
“At about 4:15 pm today, a man entered the museum, attempted to gain entry by presenting his membership card and was turned back as he had expired. There were two incidents of disorderly conduct here. Membership was inactive on two separate days. The museum expired over the past few days,” Miller said.
The suspect, who regularly visits the MoMA, is known to the NYPD and is wanted by police in connection with two other incidents in midtown Manhattan, where the museum is located, Miller said.
