Kolner High: Lost in penalty shootout

cologne –

Kölner has been having such a good season in the High German Ice Hockey League that he can bring even the most powerful teams like Adler Mannheim to the brink of defeat. At 3:4 (1:1, 0:1, 2:1, 0:0, 0:1), KEC forced a top-class opponent into a penalty shootout on Friday evening and walked out of the ice as the winner. Would have been capable of a high class DELL Classic.

The sharks took off for the beginning of a dream

High’s coach Uwe Krupp had to do without goalkeeper Justin Pogue and top scorer Landon Ferraro, who is in action for Team Canada in Russia, but his team still got off to a dream start. Mark Olver fully pucked after a superb long pass from Colin Ugbekile and took it with him, then found Maxi Kammerer in the middle with great clarity, who made it 1-0. This hit was so beautiful and powerful that the power of the arena went out for a while. When the ad ran again after only two minutes, the Eagles immediately caught on. Jordan Szawarz shoots Tomas Popperle, who was aiming high for Poge, aiming 1:1 via schooner (5th). Mannheim held onto the gas pedal and pressed the lead, but Cologne countered with lots of fighting and an attentive Popperley. Especially against Szwarz (15th) the goalkeeper showed his skill. KEC, on the other hand, could have achieved 2:1 with Ugbekile (14th) and Jersen (15th).

5000 spectators in the arena

After 20 minutes the draw was fine and should have happened only after the middle square. But because Popperle failed the last of his many tests against David Wolf by 1.4 seconds before the siren, the guests happily performed. Hai had some good chances to offer a post slam from Louis Ofing (35th). Above all, however, the home side managed to put their stamp on the game with their belligerent note in front of 5000 spectators. KEC made up for the misfortune of the goal in the last third with luck. Only when Wolf hit the post in Mannheim’s majority (45th) was when Oufing discovered a loophole in the equipment of Adler goalkeeper Dennis Andras (47th) with a backhand for 2–2. Cologne’s luck seemed in full swing when Sebastian Uvira dusted off in 3:2 (50th), but Nigel Davis quickly countered 3:3 (53rd). High captured one point, but missed another as they could not use the power play in extra time and only Mannheim’s Tim Wohlgemuth met in the penalty shootout.
