Migrants from South and Central America have been coming to New York for months. According to Mayor Adams, there are now about 17,000. The city is no longer able to provide them all and needs help.

After the arrival of thousands of migrants from the southern border area New York Mayor Eric Adams, declared a state of emergency. “We now have a situation where more people are coming to New York than we can accommodate immediately, including families with babies and young children,” Adams said. The city is not able to provide for many people.

The city will have to raise $1 billion for this year, the mayor said, seeking help from both New York state and the US government in Washington. The declaration of a state of emergency allows federal funds to be diverted.

“We are at the edge of the abyss,” said Adams. “We need help. And we need it right now.” According to Adams, there are five to six buses carrying migrants daily, nine of which arrive only on Thursdays. According to the mayor, New York has already opened 42 new shelters for the homeless, mostly hotels, but that’s not enough.

Buses Partially Organized by Republicans

Since spring, migrants have been arriving in the metropolis by buses, some of which were organized and paid for by Republican politicians in Texas and Arizona. It is suspected to be behind President Joe Biden’s efforts to pressure the government and bring about changes in migration policy.

At the time, Republican governors of Texas and Arizona began to settle immigrants from the border areas into the Democratic cities of Washington, New York and Chicago, among other places. A few weeks ago a state of emergency was declared in Washington.

Mayor Adams said more than 17,000 migrants from South and Central America are already in New York. You are not allowed to work in the United States under federal law. Still, Adams insisted that people are welcome in the city. “The people of New York have always stood up for our immigrant brothers and sisters,” he said. The compassion of New Yorkers is limitless, the means are not.
