Britain’s Foreign Secretary Liz Truss is clearly ahead in the election of Boris Johnson’s successor. Finance Minister Rishi Sunak is far behind.
Foreign Secretary Liz Truss is the clear favorite in the race for British Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s successor, according to a poll. Among Conservative Party members, Truss is 34 percentage points ahead of his rival, former finance minister Rishi Sunak. This is according to a YouGov poll for the Times newspaper published on Tuesday. 60 percent of respondents supported the truce, 26 percent voted for Sunak as prime minister and 14 percent were undecided.
The two top politicians had prevailed over the past few weeks against several other applicants for Johnson’s successor. In the coming weeks, members of the Conservative Party, who will receive the ballot, will decide which of them will lead the leadership of the party and the government concerned. The result is to be published on 5th September. Johnson announced his departure on 7 July following pressure from the party following a series of scandals and cabinet resignations.
