Lockdown in Bavaria schools too? Teachers unions do not want to deny distance education - Politics

-Due to the Omicron version of the coronavirus spreading, teacher unions are warning to stick to face-to-face teaching at all costs.

“The Omicron version worsens the pandemic situation in a big way – even in schools,” said Udo Beckmann, president of the Association for Education and Upbringing (VBE). Editorial Network Germany (Rnd/Sunday). “In any case, the motto of politics cannot be that there should be face-to-face teaching at all costs,” he said. Beckman called for the Permanent Conference of Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs to coordinate with responsible virologists regarding the health of teachers and students. He emphasized: “In this context, elective and distance learning should also not be barred.”

Heinz-Peter Meidinger, president of the German Teachers Association, said that round: “If there is a lockdown again in the coming year, then schools cannot be exempted from it.” Given the large number of illiterate students, the Omicron version is comparatively easier, especially in schools.

“A hard, short lockdown, including school closures with distance lessons still in doubt, would be better than months of living in a situation in which it is sometimes open and sometimes closed,” Meidinger said.
