“The love of my life”
TV expat Norbert Bebensi is dead
With the “Shorties” cafe on Gran Canaria, Norbert and Birgit Bebensy realize their dream of a sustainable life on Holiday Island. In the Vox format “Goodbye Germany! Migrants”, viewers could follow. But now the story has a sad end.
Whether Connie Riemann, Chris Topperwien or of course Daniela Katzenberger – some of the participants in the Vox format “Goodbye Germany! Migrants” are simply remembered. The audience should also not have completely forgotten the former professional football player Norbert Bebensi. Eventually, the “Shorties” cafe, which he opened on Gran Canaria with his wife Birgit, acquired a certain cult status.
Unfortunately, Bebensee isn’t given much time to enjoy the joy in the distance. As RTL learned, the Schleswig-Holstein native has died at the age of 67.
Birgit Bebensy indirectly confirmed the news on the Instagram page of “Shorties”. “The love of my life… how am I supposed to go on without you… I love you”, she writes of a total of three photos that show her husband at different stages of life.
“A Young Hanoverian”
Followers are also quite disappointed. For example, one user writes, “I am incredibly shocked and my thoughts are with his great wife and daughter. Life is often so unfair.” Another comment points to Bebensi’s earlier career as a professional footballer at SV Arminia Hannover and Hannover 96: “Sincere condolences. A young Hanoverian has left the boat. RIP”.
Birgit and Norbert Bebensee also dreamed of working where other people go on vacation. In 2008, after vacationing together in Gran Canaria, they decided to stay there forever. After her daughter Bianca agreed, nothing stood in the way of the family’s stay and their own beach club on the sunny island.
