Seven members of Kurdish family killed in Turkey
In Turkey, armed assailants broke into the home of a Kurdish family and killed seven people. The family lawyer speaks of an “absolutely racist attack”. This is not the first such case.
NSArmed attackers kill seven members of a Kurdish family in Turkey. According to Turkish media reports, attackers ransacked the family home in Konya in the center of the country on Friday, killing residents and trying to set the house on fire. Human rights activists spoke of a racist crime.
In May, family members were attacked and seriously injured. A family member who has now been killed told news website “Gazette Duvar” a few days ago that neighbors had threatened the family and said they “won’t let Kurds stay here”. The entire family was fearing for their lives, especially since the police and judiciary did not act against the attackers at that time.
The family’s lawyer, Abdurrahman Karabulut, told Aarti TV that it was an “absolutely racist attack”. Officials are “partly responsible for what happened”. Eren Keskin, vice-president of the Turkish Human Rights Association, wrote on Twitter that she had been informed of the matter: “The youngest member of the family told me: ‘We are so scared’.”
A week and a half ago, a Kurdish farmer in the Konya region was killed by assailants who, according to witnesses, threatened him that there was no need for Kurds in the village. The prefecture of Konya rejected the racist background and spoke of disputes over cattle and land.
