After a 2–1 win against Canada in the semi-finals of the Gold Cup, Mexico are in the final of the continental competition and face arch-enemy USA, who previously eliminated Qatar (all info >>>).
“El Trie” takes the lead in the second minute of stoppage time in the first half after a converted penalty by Pineda. In the 57th minute, Buchanan equalized for Canada. Salcedo missed a renewed lead for Mexico, with Canadian goalkeeper Crepue saving a Mexican penalty (66th).
Ultimately in stoppage time, Mexico would again put themselves at a better end. Herrera scored in the ninth minute of stoppage time to give Mexico the victory.
The final between the USA and Mexico will take place on Sunday night at 2:30 p.m. (CEST) at Allegiant Stadium, home of the NFL’s Las Vegas Raiders.
The United States and Mexico have won five each of the last ten editions of the Gold Cup – with Mexico winning the three most recent direct final doubles, most recently going 1-0 in 2019.
