The hit list of the most popular first names in 2021 has caused a stir: Emilia and Matteo are the new top runners in a Germany-wide ranking by first name expert Knud Bielefeld. “These two names are in the first place for the first time,” said the hobby name researcher. Emilia has climbed slowly but steadily over the years. “Mateo, on the other hand, went uphill very quickly. Two years ago it was not even in the top ten and is now No. 1. This is very unusual.” The new parents of Unterallgäu are clearly from such trends. Not too impressed, as other names top the list, data from the Mindelheim registry office shows.
