With the koda Enyac, I am now able to test the second MEB electric car in everyday life and it is currently the best I can imagine.
First of all: what does MEB mean? It stands for Modular Electrical Construction Kit and is the basis for Volkswagen AG’s current electric cars. The Enyaq is Skoda’s first MEB model, a The coupe version of the Enyaq will arrive in 2022.
->
Which model did I test? That was the Skoda Enyaq iV 80 with a 77 kWh battery and a range of 534 km (WLTP). This version comes with a normal MEB power of 150 kW (204 PS) on the rear axle.

Skoda Enyaq: 10 Key Points
- You can’t discuss optics, it’s more subjective than other things. I love the front of the Skoda Enyaq. The rear-only with combination optics isn’t my cup of tea, even though it naturally creates a lot of space in the trunk. But to be honest, and maybe even personally, I’m excited about the coupe version that will be presented in November.
- It stands out with workmanship and quality and I must say I was almost shocked by how high quality the Anac felt compared to the VW ID.3. Apart from the seats, everything was of remarkably high quality and had a nice appearance, which was also emphasized by everyone who walked with us. Audi Q4 e-tron and VW ID.4 are yet to come, but here Skoda has done the full delivery. There’s still a little “shiny, cheap plastic” here and there, but it has to be tolerated.
- Display “Ok”. The Enyaq runs fine and pulls well, but with this high design (in terms of other electric cars) 150 kW for over 2 tons is not that much. In everyday life, however, this is easily enough, only on the motorway do you notice that the air above is still a bit. Incidentally, the Enyaq stops at 160 km/h, which in my opinion would not be necessary as it is still very comfortable to drive there.
- But that is the focus of this version, the Enyaq is very well located on the road and is quiet and comfortable to drive. But it’s not necessarily sporty, so you’ll have to resort to the Sportline and 80x versions with 195 kW (265 PS). Or wait for the RS model, which should come with the usual GTX 299PS. The sporty chassis and dual-engine Skoda Enyac CoupĂ© might be my personal favourite.
- When it comes to range, we all know by now that the WLTP value is not a good sign, but it serves as a comparison. Skoda gives 534km for this variant and this variant probably ends up with most of the testers as it has the best range of all the variants. The combined consumption of 16.1 kWh / 100 km is probably a bit well thought out, as you quickly end up with 20 kWh / 100 km in everyday life. Two weeks is not yet an optimal period, but it is better than a short test drive at a driving event. How far did I get on average? You can cover a distance of about 400 km from Skoda Enyaq.
- The maximum charging power is 125 kW, but this is also an upgrade, the basic version of this model comes with 50 kW. I don’t think it’s good in any case, not with electric cars over 40,000 euros. 100 kW should already be there as standard and 150 kW as upgrade. Maybe even more and even with a better charging curve, because at 50 percent I wasn’t above 100 kW. It shouldn’t have a charging curve like the Audi e-tron or the Porsche Taycan, but with a view to models like the Hyundai Ioniq 5, I expect more from the MEB platform in the future.
- What I really like about an electric platform: the available space in the interior. Sure, the Enyaq is a big car, but it also offers a lot of space and I sat comfortably both in the front and back after visiting IKEA with a length of 1.90 meters and a fully packed trunk. Enyaq is a little over 4.6 meters tall, but makes optimum use of this space in the interior.
- The driver assistance systems from Volkswagen AG are nice and reliable, but you’ll have to look carefully at the configurator to see where you check the box. It’s still a bit complicated when it comes to pilot driving in everyday life. It’s easier and more intuitive. I’ve driven a lot of VW branded models now and figured out how it works, but I also showed the Enyaq to a potential buyer who found it too complicated (and a bit outdated too).
- The display in the middle is big, bright and has good colors. Skoda’s OS is fine, but in the end it was the perfect CarPlay display for me for two weeks. CarPlay works wirelessly and then you can charge the smartphone wirelessly from the front, just as it should be. And another bonus: the steering wheel has real buttons and no touch, thanks to Skoda! What I didn’t understand then: the row of buttons in the middle under the steering wheel (like for air conditioning) only starts the menu on the touch display. Why not set it up in such a way that it can be directly controlled physically, Audi continues to do this very well. I love touch, but don’t need to control everything with it.
- There are two options for recuperation: either you always go sailing or you take a little break. One-pedal driving is only possible to a very limited extent, however, since the Enyaq, like the ID.3 (and other VW group cars), does not have a recovery phase that will bring you to a stop in the city. . You have to keep pressing the brakes and that’s where I would put an option with an electric car. I also like to “sailing” on long distance routes, but in the city I want to stop without using the brakes.
Skoda Anac: My Conclusion
Skoda Enyaq is a very nice car. It is comfortable, it is of high quality, it is comfortable to drive and it has a good range for an SUV. Skoda has put together a partially better MEB car than Volkswagen.
Some things, like charging power or a little more power at such a cost, would be nice. But it’s probably not down to Skoda, as in the end the MEB is the same and Audi can only use what the platform offers.
This will of course still need to be updated for the MEB platform before we see a new platform in 2025, but that’s another topic. Looking at the first MEB model, the Enyaq has turned out to be the best family car for me.
From my side, I can recommend the koda Enyac and, as I said, as a coupe with some updated functions (charging performance should be better soon) I myself recommend the Enyac as a car for the family. could even imagine.
The P/L ratio is good, but the competition with the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Tesla Model Y is already up and running. I will also be testing other electric SUVs over the next few weeks, including those from other VW brands. But I think Skoda did the best with the first MEB generation.
