Xbox Series X | The new mode examined a comparison of frame rates compared to the PlayStation 5 versions of S and DOOM Eternal.
VGTech has the frame rate of the Xbox Series X S and PlayStation 5 versions in a video. doom eternal compared to each other. For comparison, the new modes Balanced, Performance (120fps) and Ray Tracing, which were integrated into the game with the next-gen upgrade Update 6, were selected.
Xbox Series X | Versions tested on the S were 1.0.0.19 and on PlayStation 5 were 1.001,000. Standard video settings were used. 120fps recording was done with 1080p.
Time stamp:
0:00 – Balanced-Modus
4:49 – 120fps mode
9:40 – retrace-modes
As you can see in the video, all versions of the game run with a nearly steady 60 or 120fps in all modes. In Balanced mode, the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 use dynamic resolution, with the highest resolution found to be 3840 × 2160 and the lowest resolution found to be around 2720 × 1530.
Pixel numbers below 3840 × 2160 were found more often on PlayStation 5 than on Xbox Series X. For example, in a scene the PlayStation 5 collapsed to approximately 3456 × 1944, the Xbox Series X rendered the scene at 3840 × 2160.
In balanced mode, the Xbox Series S uses dynamic resolution, with the highest resolution found being around 2560×1440 and the lowest being around 1813×1020.
In ray tracing mode, the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 use dynamic resolution with the highest resolution being 3200×1800 and the lowest resolution found around 2266×1275. Pixel numbers below 3200 × 1800 were found more often on PlayStation 5 than on Xbox Series X. For example, in a scene the PlayStation 5 dropped to approximately 2986×1680, the Xbox Series X rendered the scene at 3200×1800.
In 120fps mode, the Xbox Series X uses dynamic resolution, with the highest resolution found being 3200×1800 and the lowest being found to be around 2266×1275. PlayStation 5 also uses a dynamic resolution. The highest resolution found here is 2816 × 1584 and the lowest resolution is about 1992 × 1120. The Series S’s highest dynamic resolution is 1920×1080 in 120fps mode, and the lowest resolution is about 1360×765.
Xbox Series X | The S uses variable rate shading, which allows some double-width and double-height pixels to appear in the frame, although this coarse shading is often difficult to see.
All consoles often render at or near their maximum resolution in all modes during exploration and unrelenting combat encounters. It seems that the resolution drops less frequently in balanced mode than in the other two modes. Ray tracing mode uses ray traced images.
