Berlin The day before yesterday, the nervous tension in Sweden: On Sunday, the ruling Social Democrats decided to join NATO – now the question arises: how will Russia react?

The first, disappointing statement from Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov came on Monday morning. The decision by Sweden and Finland to abandon their military alliance was “a grave mistake with far-reaching consequences”. Addressing the two Scandinavian countries, he added alarmingly: “You should have no illusions that we will leave it.”

Later, Russian President Vladimir Putin also followed suit. NATO expansion is a problem, it will react to the expansion of military infrastructure there. Russia should keep in mind that NATO wants to expand its global influence.

Moscow knows geopolitical forces will turn to Russia’s disadvantage as the two countries join the North Atlantic Defense Alliance, but the decision seems immovable.
