New version will come in 2023
VW Amarok based on Ford Ranger
Ford has just introduced the new Ranger at a time when VW is sending out the first official information on the Amarok. This is hardly surprising, as the second version of Wolfsburg’s new workhorse will use the base of a US pick-up.
Volkswagen will introduce the second generation of the Amarok at the end of 2022. The new version of the pick-up is also currently using it as a technical base. Ford Ranger announced in its new version, but must be visually independent. Both models roll off the assembly line at various plants: Ford and Pacheco in Thailand, VW in Argentina, and the latest versions in the future in Silverton, South Africa. In Europe, the new Amarok will be available again to order as a new vehicle from the end of 2022. The second edition will be delivered from 2023.
VW hasn’t revealed any details about the new flatbed truck yet. However, it should stand out from its predecessor and US gene donor with its distinctive front in a “memorable X design”. It is also clear that the Amarok will again be available with the V6 diesel. It remains to be seen whether it will take over the engine from its predecessor or the new Ford six-cylinder from the Ranger. In addition, the Wolfsburg-based company promises an upgraded interior and more driver assistant and connectivity functions.
The collaboration on the pickup is part of a larger commercial vehicle collaboration between VW and Ford. The high-ceilinged combo VW Caddy and Ford Tourneo Connect will also share a stage in the future.
