There are many allegations against former US President Trump. One of them: He is said to have reduced or increased the finances of his company as needed to obtain financial benefits. The New York Prosecutor’s Office is now suing him.

New York state attorneys are filing a civil suit against former US President Donald Trump for fraud. Attorney General Letitia James announced that charges would also be filed against Trump’s company and their children Donald Jr., Eric and Ivanka.

James says he is seeking a total fine of $250 million. In addition, Trump and his family should be banned from doing business in New York forever.

“Billions of dollars of increased wealth”

According to the charges, defendants are said to have increased or decreased their finances based on their own needs, for example to gain easier access to loans or to pay lower taxes. It is about the annual information on the financial position from 2011 to 2021. Deutsche Bank is said to have given such loans, James said.

“Donald Trump falsely extorted billions of dollars to unfairly enrich himself and betray the system and by extension all of us,” James said. She has led the civil investigation into Trump’s corporate empire for three years and, according to current information, has spoken to 65 witnesses for the prosecution and evaluated “millions of documents.”

Lawyer: “Absolutely no wrongdoing”

Trump’s lawyer Alina Habba accused Democrat James of running a purely political agenda with his baseless allegations. “It is quite clear that the Attorney General’s office has exceeded its legal authority by spying in cases where there was no wrongdoing,” Habba said. “We are confident that our legal system will not condone this uncontrolled abuse of office.”

In the United States, Attorney Generals usually belong to one party and are elected by the people in many states. James is a member of the Democratic Party and serves in the New York state government. Trump, who belongs to the Republican Party, has therefore repeatedly called the process politically motivated and calls it a “witch hunt.”

Trump hinted to run again

The former president has been accused several times. Among other things, the FBI Confidential and classified documents at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate is secured. In the state of Georgia, he is said to have illegally pressured the Election Commission to show him extra votes in the 2020 election. An investigative committee is also investigating his role in the January 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol and may eventually recommend that he be prosecuted.

Trump has repeatedly indicated that he wants to run for president again in 2024, but has yet to officially announce it. Experts agree that one of the often multi-year processes, with opportunities for amendments and renegotiation, will be to blame before the election in November 2024.
