Potsdam (dpa / tmn) – Moving is usually stressful: signing a new lease, ending the old one, renovating, organizing furniture transportation. And then the electricity provider’s question is: will the old contract go with you or will any new conclusion have to be drawn?
Consumers can only find the answer to this question by referring to the Brandenburg Consumer Center. It shows when the electricity supplier should be informed of the move and whether the old contract can be terminated. There is no general exclusive right to terminate while on the move.
Those who live with their provider should inform the company of the new address and meter number. For your own protection, it is advisable to write or take pictures of the payment status below. If the old contract is not in progress, the supplier should be informed of the carrying out date. If you are looking for a new provider, you should know that it usually takes about two weeks for a new supplier to supply a new apartment with electricity.
Even those who have not yet signed a new contract will be supplied electricity at their new place of residence. Then you get energy from the local basic supplier – this type of supply is called backup supply.
