Enjoy hip-hop and have a handful of hundred thousand kilos burning a hole in your pocket? This might be for you.

An iconic piece of hip-hop history is up for auction – the crown worn by the Notorious B.I.G. in his previous recorded photoshoot.

The “King of New York” picture, as it came to be recognised, has featured on magazine handles, mixtapes, T-shirts, murals and even in the villain’s headquarters in Netflix’s Luke Cage.

It’s part of a Sotheby’s auction celebrating the effect of hip-hop that also includes appreciate letters penned by Tupac Shakur at the age of 16.

Some of the dollars raised by the 120 products will go to local community initiatives in New York Town.

Biggie wore this crown just three days before he was shot useless on 9 March 1997.

The letters also demonstrate the rapper’s shut friendship with fellow scholar Jada Pinkett – now better acknowledged as the actress Jada Pinkett-Smith – who he refers to in just one letter indicating: “Jada explained to me she can see how substantially I love you.”

He also talks about his residence everyday living with mentions of his mother performing late nights and him helping care for his cousins.

Tupac would go on to grow to be a single of the most celebrated rappers of all time, but at 16 the letters display he was thinking of quitting.

“My outdated supervisor arrived more than and claimed she isn’t going to want me to retire from rap but I imagine I am for the reason that I are not able to deal with far too a great deal rejection and I you should not have the time….” he writes.

Tupac was killed in a travel-by capturing in Las Vegas in September 1996, aged just 25.

The live auction, put alongside one another by former Tommy Boy Records president Monica Lynch, will choose position on 15 September in New York.
