Sprinters with Haase fifth in relay
German sprinters missed the first medal for the German relay over the 4x100m at the Olympic Games in Tokyo. The German sprinters also could not knock right in front.
Rebecca Haase (Wetzlar), Alexandra Berghart (Berghausen), Tatjana Pinto (Paderborn) and Gina Lukenkamper (Berlin) came fifth in the final. The DLV quartet, which scored 42.00 in the run-up, missed out on the bronze medal by 24th place in 42.12 seconds. Gold went to Jamaica for the first time since 2004, missing the American world record (40.82) by two tenths of an all-time best time of 41.02 seconds. Silver went ahead of Great Britain (41.88) to the Americans (41.45).
German sprinters finished sixth in the Italians’ Olympic victory over the 4 x 100 m. Julian Reus (Hanau), Joshua Hartmann (Cologne), Deniz Almas (Wolfsburg) and Lukas Ansah-Pepra (Hamburg) crossed the finish line after 38.12 seconds in Tokyo on Friday. This was the next victory for the Italians after a surprise 100m victory by Lamont Marcel Jacobs. He overcame Great Britain (37.51) and Canada (37.70) in 37.50 seconds.
