YOKOHAMA (AP) – Superstar Megan Rapinoe helped American football players reach the semi-finals of the Olympic Games on penalties.

The 36-year-old swung the deciding ball through point against European champions Netherlands in Yokohama. In the end it was 4-2 on penalties. American goalkeeper Alyssa Naher blocked shots from Vivian Miedema and Annick Nouwen. After extra time it was 2:2 (2:2, 2:1).

Midema scored twice for Oranje in regular time (18th and 54th minutes). With his ninth and tenth tournament goals in Tokyo, he set an Olympic record in his 100th international. His teammate Leakey Martens then missed on a penalty (81st).

Sam Mavis (28th) and Lynn Williams (31st) scored for the United States, who will now play against a neighbor on Monday for a place in the final. Scored in 120 minutes. Australia beat Great Britain 4-3 after extra time and will now face Sweden, who beat hosts Japan 2-1.
