Deutsche Bank open position
Wernecke must go to the supervisory board
In fact, his term on the supervisory board of Deutsche Bank will last till 2023. But because Birske, Verdi’s former boss, moves to the Bundestag for the Greens, he has to vacate the position. The successor of the supervisory body has already been determined.
The president of the Verdi Service Union, Frank Wernecke, is set to become a new member of the Deutsche Bank supervisory board. A spokesman for the union said that Wernecke intended for the vacant position and should now be appointed judicially.
Wernecke, 54, has been leading the union since 2019. On the Banks committee, he replaces former Verdi boss Frank Birske, who entered parliament in the Bundestag election for the Greens. So he stepped down from the Deutsche Bank supervisory board in mid-September. The union’s longtime head has been a member of the supervisory board since May 2013. His regular term will last till the Annual General Meeting of 2023.
The chairman of the supervisory board, Paul Echleitner, welcomed the change. “I’m really looking forward to working with Frank Wernecke,” the 65-year-old wrote on the LinkedIn network. “And I would like to thank Frank Birschke for his valuable work as a longtime member of the Deutsche Bank Supervisory Board. He made a significant contribution to the successful restructuring of the bank,” wrote Achleitner.
After ten years as head of the supervisory board, Achletner will also leave the company after the annual general meeting in May. The chairman of the supervisory board and the nomination committee must seek a successor to the chief controller. Deutsche Börse boss Theodor Weimar has been given the opportunity. Former Volkswagen CFO Frank Witter is also a likely candidate for the chairmanship of the Frankfurt DAX Group’s supervisory board.
