Thomas Fruhwirth won his second medal at the Paracycling World Championships in Bai-Comeau, northeast of Quebec (Canada).
The 41-year-old Styrian also finished second in the handbike road race after a silver in the individual time trial. And again he only had to give way to the Dutchman Jetz Platt.
“It was a great race and I am completely satisfied,” smiled the two-time medalist after 66.2 kms. He played a big part of it with the latter’s world champion Platt, who was only able to shake the strong Styrian in the final. Frenchman Mathieu Bossredon won the bronze medal. Tyrolean Alexander Gritsch finished eighth in the road race.
Salzburg’s Cornelia Wibmer finished fourth, down a minute from the precious metal. Olympic champion Walter Eblinger battled convulsions to finish 12th.
At the end of Sunday’s Para World Championships, two Austrians, Yvonne Marzinke and Franz-Joseph Lasser, are still in action.
