BERLIN (dpa/tmn) — Sony is bringing support for HDMI video output with 1440p to the Playstation 5 via a software update. It corresponds to 2560 by 1440 pixels. For comparison: Full HD offers only 1920 by 1080 pixels. 1440p is also often referred to as WQHD (Wide Quad High Definition) and has been available on Microsoft’s competitor Xbox Series X for some time.
thanks to Update For example, it should now be possible to create sports lists in the library to be able to sort games by category. There are 15 lists possible with a maximum of 100 games. And gamers can now do a sound comparison directly on the monitor and hear whether they prefer 3D audio or stereo audio.
In addition, Sony has simplified access to ongoing PS5 activities with the update and now also offers the option to request screen shares from party members.
New functions are to follow in September for the Playstation app (Android and iOS), such as the ability to start a Remote Play session directly from the app. The prerequisite is the installation of PS App and PS Remote Play App. It should be possible to ask a party member who is playing on a PS5 to share their screen through the app so they can follow their games on a mobile device – even on the go.
