Mayor Eskandri-Grünberg receives the Governor General of Canada at the Imperial Hall
Romer’s Important Visit: The Governor General of Canada, Mary May Simon, signs the Golden Book of the city of Frankfurt am Main on the afternoon of Wednesday, October 20. On the red carpet in front of Romer, he was received by Mayor Narges Eskandri-Grünberg, who had attended the ceremony at the Imperial Hall with him.
Mary May Simon will represent the Canadian government at the 2021 book fair, where this year’s North American country will be the guest country. The Canadian program titled “Singular Plurality – Singular Plurals” focuses on the country’s diversity, innovations in creative industries, fostering women and youth, and rapprochement with Indigenous peoples.
Mayor Eskandri-Grünberg and the Governor General had already attended the opening ceremony of the book fair on Tuesday, 19 October. This is his first overseas visit since his appointment as the 30th Governor General of Canada on July 26, 2021. Mary May Simon is the first Inuk to hold the position.
As the representative of Canada’s head of state (Queen Elizabeth II), the governor general is a key figure in Canada’s parliamentary democracy.
