As a reaction to the closure of several countries’ airspace for Russian aircraft, aircraft from Germany and 35 other countries will no longer be allowed to fly over Russia. The Russian aviation authority Rosaviaziza announced this on Monday. For example, there may be exceptions to special permits from the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

A published list mentions other European countries such as Austria, Poland, France, Finland, the Czech Republic and Belgium. Canada is also affected. It was not initially announced when the ban would be lifted. Germany and other EU countries decided to act in protest against the Russian attack on Ukraine. Russia then announced that it would no longer allow machines from the respective countries to fly over Russian airspace.
The German regulation came into force over the weekend and affects flights and overflights to and from Germany, as announced by the federal transport ministry. Humanitarian flights are exempted from the ban. According to the ministry, the ban will be initially in force for three months. (dpa)
