Düsseldorf The musician defends himself against doubts about his credibility: after an alleged anti-Semitic incident at a hotel in Leipzig, he confirms his account of events. He had a chain around his neck the whole time.
When it comes to reputation, timing is an important factor. It would therefore be appropriate to wait for an investigation into singer Gil Ofrim’s anti-Semitic allegations against the Leipzig Hotel. Recordings are being made from surveillance cameras, police in Leipzig are evaluating films, the Public Prosecutor wants to inform the public at the appropriate time. But: Over the weekend, excerpts from these videos, which show the singer unchained, are said to have triggered animosity. This leaves room for doubts about the details of the singer. And again there are doubts about the meaningfulness of the video snippet – and people make decisions, no matter how premature.
Perhaps this is one reason why Ofrim has taken his stand on the allegations against him on several occasions. “I was wearing my chain – as usual,” he said when asked. “I wear it on social networks or even on appearances, so I was attacked.” She also wore a necklace with Star of David on the day before the incident in early October for a television production that will be shown soon.
Furthermore, Ofrim, on the contrary, now seeks evidence from those who accuse him of misrepresenting events. He should have made public the point in the video where he allegedly pulled the chain out of his pocket or suitcase and pulled it over his head. “There is no such point in time,” Ofrim says. “I can say again one hundred percent that I wore the chain around my neck the whole time.”
Musician and son of Israeli musician Abi Ofrim, who died three years ago, said he was anti-Semitism at a large hotel in Leipzig in early October and was barred from checking in because he visited David.
