Meta to investigate wrongdoings by Sandberg

Days after the right-hand man of Facebook boss Zuckerberg left the company, he faced an internal investigation, according to a Wall Street Journal report. It will be investigated whether top manager Sandberg has used employees for personal purposes.

Facebook’s parent company Meta is investigating whether outgoing top manager Sheryl Sandberg used employees for personal purposes, according to a newspaper report. The Wall Street Journal, citing people familiar with the procedures, reported that lawyers were investigating, among other things, work done for Sandberg’s “Lean In” foundation.

It is also about the works related to the publication of the second book of Sandberg. The investigation spans the events over several years and has been ongoing since at least autumn 2021. Several employees were questioned. Sandberg may have violated internal guidelines. The penalties for such violations are not known.

Sandberg and Meta could not immediately be contacted for comment. In early June, Sandberg surprisingly announced that he wanted to retire in the autumn after a 14-year term. The manager who was previously responsible for the day-to-day business explained that she now wants to focus on her foundation, among other things. She wants to retain her seat on the META board of directors.

The Wall Street Journal quotes Sandberg’s confidants as saying that an internal investigation may have puzzled the manager. However, that did not contribute to his decision to leave the company.

Along with company founder Mark Zuckerberg, Sandberg is one of the most famous faces of the world’s largest Internet network. The Harvard graduate was long considered Zuckerberg’s right-hand man. The 52-year-old also made a name for himself as a writer: his books “Lean In: Women and the Will to Success” and “Option B: How We Can from Misfortune Through Resilience and Find in Life” are bestsellers.
