Groups accusing human rights abuses against minorities in China are calling for a complete boycott of the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, which could put pressure on the International Olympic Committee, athletes, sponsors and sports federations.
A coalition representing Uygars, Tibetans, Hong Kong residents and others issued a statement on Monday calling for a boycott to avoid less important measures than a “diplomatic boycott” and start new talks with the IOC or China Was done.
“The time for discussion with the IOC is over,” Lhadon Tethong of the Tibet Action Institute said in an exclusive interview with the Associated Press. “There cannot be a game as usual or a business as usual. Neither for the IOC nor for the international community. “”
The Beijing Games are scheduled to open on February 4, 2022, exactly six months after the postponed Tokyo Summer Olympics ended.
