Austrian-Canadian auto supplier Magna’s founder, Frank Stronach, plans to begin series production of the electrically powered mini car in Canada by early 2022. Stronach explained that the main purpose of the vehicle, called Sarit, is to travel from home to work and back.
“Sarit” means safe, affordable, reliable, innovative transportation, so the vehicle must be safe, economical, reliable and innovative. The purchase will cost around 4,000 euros, but Stronach also promises that it will cost less than conventional cars to maintain, park and account for. The driver’s cab is particularly secure.
The electric tricycle is about 3 meters long, 1 meter wide and 1.5 meters high, should be able to travel 100 km with a full charge and drive a maximum of 32 km/h. Basically, the vehicle is a single-seater, but people who don’t need that much space can position themselves behind the driver’s seat, such as rear passengers on a motorcycle. If you want to feel the wind while driving, you can remove the doors.
First Canada, then Styria
Overhead lockers should have room for large amounts of shopping or golf equipment, but the micro-car is also suitable for mobile caretakers, for example. Instructions for drivers only take 20 minutes, promises Stronach (PDF).
Initially, Sarit is to be built at Stronach International’s headquarters north of Toronto, Canada. 80 percent of the components, including the required aluminum, will come from Canada initially, and 100 percent in about three years. Later another production site is planned in Styria, Austria, where a research center and the European headquarters of Stronach International are also to be built.
