SYDNEY (AP) – Even without their top player Rafael Nadal, Spanish men’s tennis men celebrated their second ATP Cup win in a second group game. Against Norway, the Spaniards won 3–0 after winning two singles and one double.
With the same result, they had already won against Chile in the beginning and are now easily leading Group A. Poland took their second win in Group D. After 2:1 in the first game against Greece, world number nine Hubert Herkás defeated Georgia 3:0. In team competition, the four winners from four groups of four advance to the semi-finals.
The German team, along with Olympic champions Alexander Zverev, Jan-Lenard Struff, Kevin Kravitz, Tim Putz and Yannick Hanfmann, lost 2-1 to Great Britain the day before. Team boss Michael Kohlman will play against USA on 4 January (00:00) in Group C. The Americans won a clear 3–0 win against Canada, which is Germany’s rival, on January 6 (7.30am/Sky & ServsTV). With the ATP Cup in place, tennis professionals are preparing for the Australian Open, which begins in Melbourne on January 17.
