Kim Kardashian made the Met Gala red carpet the highlight of the year in a Marilyn Monroe Original outfit. The 41-year-old dyed her hair platinum blonde based on the style icon. She vetos the outfit of her new boyfriend.
The sparkling beige dress seems almost plain compared to many other extravagant dresses and suits — but Kim Kardashian provided the highlight of this year’s Met Gala with an original outfit from Marilyn Monroe. In 1962, the reality star walked the red carpet at a star-studded event at the Metropolitan Museum in New York, dressed as Monroe for the birthday song of then-US President John F.
When she tried on the dress, it didn’t fit her at first, Kardashian said on the sidelines of the incident. After that she had to lose about seven kilograms. “I don’t think they believed I could do it, but I did.”
The original dress, now owned by a curio museum chain, was worn by Marilyn Monroe at Madison Square Garden while singing “Happy Birthday” to President John F. The photo shows him next to President Kennedy’s brother-in-law, Steve Smith.

Kardashian wore a white jacket over a beige sparkling dress, and she also dyed her hair platinum blonde—also based on Monroe. As the fashion magazine “Vogue” reports, the original dress was auctioned several times and now belongs to a chain of curiosity museums, the publishers of which are co-hosting the Met Gala. Kardashian wore it only for red carpet walks and then changed her clothes to avoid damaging the dress.
By Kardashian’s side, her new boyfriend, comedian Pete Davidson, appeared in a black suit. “She won’t let me put my hat on with the propeller, but that’s okay,” Davidson joked. Kardashian said she’s looking forward to the after-Meet Ball party. “I haven’t eaten carbs or sugar in three weeks—there’s a pizza and donut party when we get back to the hotel.”
Often called the “Party of the Year”, the Met Ball is an annual fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum’s Costume Institute. The institute’s annual budget, now named after Vogue boss Anna Wintour, is estimated at several million dollars from “costume institute benefits”. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the gala, which traditionally took place on the first Monday in May, had to be canceled twice in a row and then finally slated for the opening of the fashion exhibition “In America” in September 2021.
