British rock band Status Quo co-founder Alan Lancaster has died. This has been confirmed by the group’s management.
A statement on the band’s website said: “It is with great sadness that we announce that Alan Lancaster, one of the co-founders of Status Quo, has died at the age of 72.” The musician was suffering from Multiple Sclerosis for years.
“We were friends and colleagues over the years and we celebrated great successes with Rick Parfitt and John Coughlan as the ‘Frantic Four’,” said singer Francis Rossi (72) in Communication. “Allen was at the center of the sound and tremendous success of the status quo in the 1960s and 1970s.”
Alan Lancaster left the band in 1985 and then led legal disputes with his former bandmates. For a reunion tour, the former friends reunited a few years ago to be on stage with the original cast.
The status quo is known through unforgettable hits like “Rockin’ All Over the World” and “In the Army Now”.
