Former Bundesliga referee Bibiana Steinhaus-Webb is leaving the German Football Association and will seek to improve the character of referees in England in the future.
The DFB on Monday announced the departure of the 42-year-old, two days after working as a video assistant at the women’s final of the Olympic tournament in Tokyo between Canada and Sweden. Steinhaus-Webb, who hails from Bad Lauterberg in Lower Saxony, will in the future be responsible for selecting female referees at the English referee association PGMOL in the home country of her husband Howard Webb – who is also a former world-class referee.
Frolich: “Milestone in your career”
“With the conditions of the current framework, women’s football in England is setting completely new standards. I am looking forward to sharing my diverse experience as a referee with referees in England and supporting them in reaching their full potential.” Looking forward to the great opportunity for resilient structures within the association for optimal development,” explained Steinhaus-Webb.
German chief referee Lutz-Michael Frolich described the future post of chief policeman as “a new milestone in his career in football”.
Contact should be maintained with DFB
However, the contact between Steinhaus-Webb and the DFB should not be completely broken. During his move, Steinhaus-Webb should make a significant contribution to the exchange between the DFB and the English FA on refereeing issues. A possible candidacy as president of the association, which was being discussed, should no longer be an issue due to his departure from Germany.
