Successful meetings are essential to a successful company. Because in these teams come together and talk about current topics, future goals of the company or potential problems. And Amazon founder Jeff Bezos reveals how to successfully organize meetings. He has made two golden rules for this.
correct group size
The right group size is required for the meeting to run smoothly. The founders of Amazon explain this using the “two pizza rule.” So there should only be enough people around that two pizzas should be enough to fill them. And that’s not entirely wrong, as more participants can cause problems. There is a high chance that employees will come unprepared or engage in irrelevant conversations.
read together
For his second rule, Bezos stipulates that all participants simultaneously read a multi-page transcript, which serves as a guide and contains relevant meeting topics. The document should not be sent to employees in advance, but should be read together during the meeting. In this way one can avoid the problem that the participants come unprepared. It also saves employees time, as many have other tasks that do not always make it possible to read multi-page documents carefully.
