Canadian ice hockey association Hockey Canada on Monday appointed John Cooper as head coach for the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing.

The 53-year-old Canadian is the full-time head coach of the Tampa Bay Lightning, which has led him to the Stanley Cup in the NHL for the past two years.

Cooper had already coached the national team once when Canada lost the final against Sweden in a penalty shootout at the 2017 World Cup in Cologne.

NHL head coaches Bruce Cassidy (Boston), Peter DeBoer (Vegas) and Barry Dock (New York Islanders) assist Cooper.

“It’s a privilege. My son said to me, ‘Oh god dad, you have an all-star team coaching, and that’s exactly what I believe in Bruce, Peter and Barry. It’s so exciting to be a part of that too,'” Cooper explains.
