Berlin – The new building application for the Tesla factory east of the capital comprises 11,000 pages. It was released on Friday. It shows Giga-Factory’s new plan – but also lots of dark areas. The cost also remains a mystery!
Tesla submitted new documents for construction to the state office for the environment in early June. The changes were necessary, among other things, as the company also plans to build battery cells with an annual capacity of 50 gigawatt-hours at the site. Tesla still houses the largest battery factory in Europe – only half the amount announced by boss Elon Musk.
It is also the biggest innovation that can now be seen on the map – marked in blue, at the bottom right. Tesla has applied for a related assistant facility for this.
The E-Car Group only gives a rough description of the production of their new Li-ion dry cells. The manufacturing process and cost have been blacked out in an 11,000-page application.
Incredible: The new application even blacked out the manufacturing cost of the car and battery factory. In a previous building application, Tesla had said 700 million euros for Shell and 1.1 billion euros for the entire project. Costs are decisive for state subsidies.
The group also plans to expand the press shop with two more press lines. So The Body Shop has been reduced to a production line. In addition, there are manufacturing steps for manufacturing and painting plastic components such as bumpers and rear-view mirror covers.
Tesla also wants further advance approval for the Gigafactory and justifies this with 12,000 new jobs and a public interest in “accelerating the energy and transportation transition.”
Documents displayed publicly from Friday until 17 July can be seen at the Frankfurt (Oder) branch of the State Office for the Environment (LFU), the community of Grünheide, the Sprinhagen office, the city of Erkner and the district in Oder-Spree Bisko. In addition, according to further information from the Ministry of the Environment, they can also be read on the Internet.
Anyone can file an objection on the project till August 16. A public hearing will take place on 13 September at the town hall in Erkner.
Among other things, complete application documents as well as emissions forecasts for air pollutants, odors and noise, species conservation articles, technical articles on the Water Framework Directive and vibration and vibration reports are interpreted accordingly.
Tesla plans to make about 500,000 copies of the Model Y compact SUV at Grunheide each year. Final environmental approval through the federal Emissions Control Act for construction is missing. So Tesla is building with early approval. The timing of the final decision is unclear.
But Tesla is adamant on starting production this year.
