cologne – Karl Lagerfeld (1933–2019), internationally successful fashion designer, art lover, eccentric. But: Lagerfeld was also a collector’s lover!
One of the objects of his wish: “iPods” from the Apple brand. They had a total of 600 small, portable music players – 310 of which are now being auctioned by the luxury auction house “Sotheby’s” in Cologne at Fashion Jar’s third and last property auction.
“He said he was the king of the iPod, he was crazy about them,” said Pierre Mothes, Sotheby’s vice president of France and personally acquainted with Karl Lagerfeld. He said that “iPods” have changed the way people enjoy music.
The Motley Fool collection comes in sets of 50 or 80 “iPods” or “iPods Nano” of the 6th or 7th generation (estimated prices from 3000 to 6000 euros each). Interested parties have five chances to catch Carl’s music at a live auction on the evening of May 4.
Each device has a small round sticker with a handwritten note, for example “Piano” or “Italia”. Pierre Moths: “Every iPod had a different style on it.”
The auction house itself doesn’t know whether Carl’s music can actually still be heard: “We leave it up to the buyer to do what he does with it. The battery will probably have to be recharged,” the vice president said.
Also for sale are items from the designer’s personal wardrobe, such as dressing gowns and leather gloves. and vintage pieces of furniture, matched by twelve cotton sheets from the early twentieth century.
