The Department of Health in Freiburg is currently investigating eleven suspected cases in which the virus mutation Omicron may be present. Final results are yet to come.
So far, there has only been one officially confirmed Omicron case in Freiburg. But more may soon be added: According to the Department of Health, there are currently eleven suspected cases under investigation, in which – so much is already certain – the delta variant does not exist. “A mutation screening is performed, which enables the first indication of the Omicron variant,” says Mathias Fetterer, spokesman for the district office. Sequencing of samples takes about two weeks.
“Affected people are younger, not previously ill, who have obvious symptoms but are not seriously ill,” Fetterer said. The transition occurred mostly in the private sector. Fewer tests were conducted during the holidays and no special tests were done. This is now changing again: This is why more reports of specific mutation findings can be expected again, the Department of Health announced.
