Where will the 2026 World Cup be held? Information about the mode and venue of the next World Cup
On one hand, the World Cup will be held in three countries for the first time. In 2018, world governing body FIFA awarded the tournament to the USA, Mexico and Canada. The United States (1994) and Mexico (1970 and 1986) already have experience as World Cup hosts, but Canada is hosting the World Cup for the first time. FIFA is also making a decisive change to the mode.
For the first time, a total of 48 countries can participate in the World Cup. Since 1998, there have been 32 participants in each World Championship. As of the current situation, there should no longer be groups of four, but the preliminary round will be divided into 16 groups of three. According to the Guardian, however, discussions are ongoing as to whether to return to the mode with groups of four.
