To ensure road safety on motorways around Mainz, a speed camera pilot project was launched at Mainz Police Headquarters six weeks ago. For this, the police installed so-called semi-stationary speed cameras at many places.
This means: the radar system is not a permanently installed speed camera, but one that is not permanently positioned in its location. In this way, the measuring device can be removed from the housing at any time and used elsewhere. The project ended last Sunday and left a real blaze of lightning storms in the Mainz area.
where is the speed camera leader
A total of eight different locations were flashed in the area. Police announced locations in Weissnauer Brücke, the Mainz motorway triangle (transitioning to the A 643) and the A 61. The first data has now been evaluated. And as announced by the police headquarters responsible for the West Palatinate project, there is also a speed camera leader. It is located “at the level of the MZ-Innenstadt exit, direction Darmstadt, at the location of the A60 in Mainz district”. Most of the trips took place there.
PP does not disclose how many vehicles were actually flashed there. For this purpose, officers provide a general overview of the Mainz area: in total, the test system was triggered 14,167 times in the Mainz Police Headquarters area because the vehicles were too speeding. According to PP West Palatinate, no statement can yet be made about the amount of the respective fine. After the testing phase at Mainz PP, the speed camera system for the project has now been transferred to Koblenz PP. Therefore the measuring system is no longer installed in the Mainz area. According to the authority, it is not currently known whether the project will in-principle continue at a later time.
