Bayern star Neuer talks about his last World Cup

National goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has confirmed that the World Cup in Qatar will probably be his last. “You never know, but I believe so,” the 36-year-old FC Bayern Munich goalkeeper said in an interview with “Sports Illustrated”. This is the fourth participation in a major event for the 2014 world champion, after 2010, 2014 and 2018.

The German national team will play its first match against Japan on 23 November. Spain and Costa Rica are other anti-groups. “I’m not afraid to say that we want to be world champions. We know many nations want that. A lot plays a part, we need the right pace,” Neuer said.

Muller will no longer play Bayern games before the World Cup

Thomas Mueller has to deal with the World Cup without another competitive game. Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann is planning the last two Munich games of the year against 2014 world champions Werder Bremen and FC Schalke 04. (at 8.30 in T-Online live ticker).

“I want to give them peace and quiet before the World Cup so that the structure is fully recovered,” Nagelsmann said on Monday. “It’s a bit too much of a risk to me and there isn’t enough understanding.” He also spoke to the attacker about this.

Salihamidzic has wanted to work with Nagelsmann “for years”.

Coach Julian Nagelsmann did not appear uneasy during FC Bayern Munich’s low earnings crisis, according to sporting director Hassan Salihamidzic. “I experienced him at peace and he changed a lot in quick succession,” Salihamidzic said on Sky TV channel. He spoke to the coach a lot during a difficult period in late summer, when Bayern were without a win in four matches in the Bundesliga.

Criticism of Nagelsmann and his team in recent weeks was “a bit excessive”, Salihamidczyk insisted. “He learns quickly, is friendly and very intelligent,” the 45-year-old praised the head coach. With Nagelsmann, 35, the club wants to “work together for years, if possible,” the sporting director said.

Jamal Musiala talks about his career goal

Jamal Musiala has been part of the Bayern Pros for two years and has established himself as a top performer. The only 19-year-old midfielder has already completed 98 competitive games for the German record champions. So far this season alone he has scored eight Bundesliga goals and drawn five more. But it should not be so.

No Nubel returned to Munich at the moment

Bayern sporting director Hassan Salihamidzic has ruled out goalkeeper Alexander Nubel returning to Munich next year. “It won’t happen in 2023. After that you have to watch,” said Salihamidzic on Sunday evening on the Sky TV channel. The 26-year-old Nubel is on loan for AS Monaco until the end of this season, his contract with Bayern runs until 2025.

However, Salihamidczyk plans to continue with national goalkeeper Manuel Neuer (36) as regular keeper in Munich. “We would freak out about telling Manuel that you stop,” said the 45-year-old. For his part, Nubel had refused to return to Bayern as long as Neuer was still active. Therefore, Nubel may again push for loans or transfers.

Salihamidzic said he spoke to Nubel. Now the club has to decide. “But we are not far enough yet,” said the sporting director. Neuer’s contract with Bayern runs through the middle of 2024. “He says how long he plays. Manuel is an absolute professional,” Salihamidzic said.
