61 percent less
Three simple things that drastically reduce the risk of cancer
It is said that if three simple things are implemented, the risk of cancer is reduced by 61 percent. This is the result of a study from Switzerland. You can find out what these are here.
Omega-3 fish oil, vitamin D and a basic exercise program – according to a recent study, these are the three things that significantly reduce the risk of cancer by 61 percent.
Three things that substantially reduce the risk of cancer
One Investigation Participants over the age of 70 have now shown that taking a short exercise program along with omega-3 fish oil and vitamin D significantly reduces the risk of cancer. This Fitbook.de. is reported by
Previous studies have already shown that vitamin D can inhibit the growth of cancer cells. Omega-3 may also inhibit the conversion of normal cells into cancer cells. Plus, according to a newly published study, exercise has been shown to improve immune function and reduce inflammation, which may also help prevent cancer. However, there are no reliable clinical studies so far that can prove the extent to which a combination of all three protects against cancer. This is where the University Hospital Zurich comes in handy.
About 2,150 adults aged 70 and older participated in the study from five European countries – Switzerland, France, Germany, Austria and Portugal. All were healthy at the start of the study, with no cancer diagnoses.
As part of the study, participants were divided into eight groups that used one or more components — vitamin D, omega-3 fatty acids and exercise — to:
- Take 2,000 IU of vitamin D3 (200 percent of the daily requirement) and 1 gram of omega-3 fatty acids in combination with strength training (SHEP).
- Vitamin D3 and Omega-3 Fatty Acids
- Vitamin D3 and SHEP
- Omega-3 Fatty Acids and SHEP
- Vitamin D3 alone
- omega-3 fatty acids alone
- SHEP alone
- a placebo
Over a period of three years, participants regularly took part in tests and health examinations. During this period 81 cases of cancer were reported.
The combination brought the greatest success
The scientists saw improvement in all eight groups. Even taking a placebo reduces the risk of cancer to some extent. However, the values of one group were particularly convincing, with a 61 percent reduction in cancer risk. Study author Dr. Heike Bischoff Ferrari.
According to the scientist, cancer prevention still plays a very small role, as the risk of cancer increases with age. “Preventive efforts in middle-aged and older adults are largely limited to screening and vaccination,” explains Bischoff-Ferrari in a university notice, Although it is generally advised not to smoke and use sunscreen, she doesn’t think that is enough. The present study shows that much can be achieved with little effort. “Our results may prove beneficial in reducing the overall cancer burden.”
