Most football enthusiasts have long realized that Alfonso Davies is one of the fastest football players in the world and will probably make an excellent time even in the 100 meters. In qualifying for the World Cup with the Canadian national team, the Bayern star once again displayed an impressive display of his incredible pace.
In Canada’s 4-1 win over Panama, the 20-year-old scored 2-1 for his country. Davis switched to turbo mode. The Canadian leapt from his own half and was able to steal an impassable ball from opponent Harold Cummings.
With the ball on his foot, Davis dances to another opponent and completes the short corner skillfully. An important goal:
The opening goal finally put Canada on the road to victory. With three points, the rival could overtake Panama – in third place Canada could be dreaming of a World Cup ticket. This will be the first partnership since 1986!
Davis’s dream hit was celebrated with enthusiasm in his home country. Commentators were hard to come by on the live broadcast (“Aalfonso Daavis, are you kidding me?”), and newspaper headlines rolled in.
“Alphonso Davies made it clear to all spectators why, at age 20, he is one of the best players in the world and the best one has ever played for the men’s national team,” wrote. Toronto Star.
“Davis’ performance turns Canada into a team that no one cares about that can be touched by fate,” he captioned globe and mail.
Highlights of the game
Rapper Drake, who is currently probably Canada’s biggest star, contacted coach John Heinemann after the game. “He dreams of participating in the World Championships with this team. He really wants to,” said Heinemann of a conversation with Drake.
He had already reported to Davies after Bayern’s Champions League title and has been one of Young’s Instagram followers ever since. A one-of-a-kind compliment for Davis: “Oh my god. I can’t believe it. My life is complete. I’m going crazy,” he wrote.
