(Motorsport-Total.com) – Formula 1 has revamped the calendar for the coming weeks. The planned Grand Prix in Istanbul may not be due to current travel restrictions in Turkey. Formula 1 has now decided to hold a second race in Spielberg, Austria. The French Grand Prix is moving forward.

The race in Istanbul slipped into the calendar only on short notice as a replacement for the failed Grand Prix in Montreal (Canada). But it is now clear that the program may not go according to plan on 13 June. The backdrop is the current travel ban that requires two weeks of quarantine – “inappropriate,” said Gunther Steiner, boss of the Haas team recently.
Hence the Grand Prix was canceled as a precaution. Turkey is now out of the Formula 1 calendar again. However, this series is open to keep the event open that there should be a little more race in the year.
As an alternative, Austria will once again come here, where, as in the previous year, the Styrian Grand Prix will take place as the second race at the Red Bull Ring. It will be held on 27 June, a week before the regular Austrian Grand Prix in Spielberg.
However, as it falls on the previous date of the French Grand Prix at Le Castellet, it will be extended one week to June 20. This is now the result of another triple header – the fourth in the current Formula 1 season in 2021. Thus the number of races remains at a record number of 23.
“We were all looking forward to a race in Turkey, but due to travel restrictions we might not be there in June,” Formula 1 boss Stefano Domenicelli said. “But Formula 1 has once again shown that it can react quickly to development and find a solution. We are delighted that we have a double header in Austria, which means that our season will be 23 races long. “
“I would like to thank the promoters and those responsible in Turkey for their efforts over the past few weeks and also the promoters in France and Austria for their speed, flexibility and enthusiasm for this solution,” the Italian continued Kept.
