Will Ukraine be part of the European Union from June?
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky, 44, expects his country to be given EU candidate status in early June. “Today we took another step on the way to the European Union, an important and not only formal one,” Zelensky said in his daily video address on Monday evening.
On Monday his country handed out the second part of a questionnaire answer that each state must fill out in order to apply for membership. “It usually takes months, but we got it done in weeks.”
On Monday, he spoke to both Commission President Ursula von der Leyen (63) and EU Council President Charles Michel (46) about Ukraine’s European integration, Zelensky continued.
Both were impressed by the quick answers to the questionnaire. “And I was pleased to hear from him (from layne, Editor’s note) that our motion will prompt the EU Commission to act as quickly as possible.”
Zelensky expects a positive answer and a candidate country status for Ukraine in June.
