Löwen Frankfurt has received a new head coach: Canadian Gerry Fleming returns to Germany and takes charge of the Hessians.
Löwen Frankfurt has a new head coach: Gerry Fleming is returning from Canada to Germany and is now in charge of the DEL promoted team. Fleming, 54, hails from the Iowa Heartlanders. In Germany, Fleming took care of Isberen Berlin as an assistant coach between 2018 and 2021, with whom he was able to celebrate the championship in 2021.

He fits in very well with our team, having not only a lot of experience in North America, but also knowing DEL through his time with Eisberen Berlin,” said Löwen sports director Franz-David Fritzmeier, one of the club’s Gerry looks forward to returning to DELL and working with our coaching team to successfully coach our team,” Fritzmeier continued in the statement.

“The whole Leuven team did a great job with promotion to the First German League last season,” Fleming said. “Of course, it is an exciting challenge to keep working to get better and better and build a team that will play well at DEL for years to come. I love challenges like this, so I am very grateful for this opportunity, To be part of the team and organization of Leuven Frankfurt.”
Over 970 games as head coach
Fleming was a forward in North American professional hockey for seven seasons, notably in the Montreal Canadiens organization, prior to his coaching career. For the Canadiens, he completed eleven NHL games and was stripped of the jersey of an otherwise farm team in the AHL, the Fredericton Canadiens, before he first moved behind the rink in 1998/1999 as an assistant coach.
To date, Canada has been responsible as head coach in over 970 matches in the ECHL and AHL. During his time at AHL clubs Oklahoma City and Bakersfield, he coached the young talent of the Edmonton Oilers (NHL), as coach of the Iowa Heartlanders, he belonged to the training system of the Minnesota Wild (NHL).
After 20 coaching seasons in the ECHL and AHL, Fleming moved to Eisbren Berlin for three seasons, where he helped Eisbren celebrate the DEL Championship in 2020/2021.
